A Message From Heidi...

For more than two years, I’ve shared my tips, real-life stories and other tidbits of information with you on this blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by each week and provide feedback when something resonated with you. As of today, we’re transitioning to a blog on our main website that will cover a variety of topics, and we invite you to visit the Live Smart. Bank Smart. Writing the mPower blog has been a pleasure, and I look forward to keeping in touch with you on our new blog.

Pricey fashion trend

leggings not just for ballet
Leggings aren't just for ballet anymore!

I came across an interesting article on Yahoo! Finance today—and I learned a new word, too. You know I’m a fan of putting two words together to create a new one, so when I saw “Athleisure” my interest was piqued.

According to the article, leggings and sweatpants are actually the pants of choice for teens for spring 2014, leaving jeans in the dust. And a study released by the company PiperJaffray notes that jeans weren’t even mentioned as a top fashion trend at all. How times have changed. Clothing that was once used only during athletics has now become the leisure outfit norm—hence, “Athleisure.”

Yes, leggings have evolved quite a bit from their yoga-only days—but, the price has gone up along with the more fashionable changes. Certain stores sell leggings and sweats for $80+. Yes, for one pair of leggings or sweats. No matter how I look at it, I can’t see myself spending that kind of cash for some stretchy pants. That’s twice as much as I’m willing to spend on a pair of jeans! I’m definitely not against this fashion trend, because, let’s face it, who doesn’t like to be comfortable when they’re out and about? But, how could I feel comfortable after spending that much on an item that is—when it comes down to it—pretty much meant for the gym?

I’ve assigned myself a new project: find high-quality leggings for a reasonable price. I know there’s a way to be trendy, yet remain true to my thrifty side. Do any of you enjoy wearing leggings or sweats when you go out? Do you know of any good deals? Please share!

I love wearing leggings! They are so comfy, but I would NEVER spend $80 on them! I have found that my favorite ones are from Forever 21 and TJ Maxx :D

I love getting jeggins for my daughter at The Children's Place. Right now TCP has free shipping and most of their clothing is on sale. Like many children my daughter is skinny so the jeans always slip off her tiny waist but Jeggins are perfect for her. Its a combo of leggins and jeans.

I am a product of the 80's and i am sooooooooo happy leggings are coming back. The least expensive place to get them is...............drum roll please...........walmart. You can say maybe its lesser quality, but how much do you really ask of your leggings?
